I am from India, and i'm very impressed with the samsung Captivate and samsung vibrant..
Somebody told me that you can buy the Captivate from amazon and it will cost around $200 including a contract, and that i can bring it to india and unlock it and then use it in India with my existing gsm sim card..
Is this possible?
also will it work in india and how much will it cost me?
Help plzz

Hello sirius and welcome to the forum.

Yes you can for ~$200 with a 2year contract.

...that i can bring it to india and unlock it and then use it in India with my existing gsm sim card..Is this possible?
There is an app called SGS Unlocker which you can get from the Android Market and it will help you unlock the phone and let you use another companies SIM card.  HOWEVER, I don't know what bands the company in India uses OR of they will be compatible with the Captivate.  Finding out that information will inform you about whether it will work in India and how much it will cost you.

They charge $175 for early termination. You might be better off buying an asia version that's already unlocked. They are all over ebay.

For the time being the Captivate is available through Amazon for only .01 (That's right, ONE CENT!) When checking out, don't check the box with the agreement to pay the $250 equipment fee for early termination.
As far as terminating the contract early, one may do so without have to pay fees. I have researched commercial law and have witnessed a friend successfully do so. They are SO deceptive with their fees.

I started a thread about this. Look in the forum, Plans and Services.
