ROM Name: Ultimate - v5.6 XXJPY Captivate edition

Kernel Used: Ultimate - K12I Captivate kernel 500Hz

Days of Use: 7 (to present)

Quadrant Score: 1419

LinPack Score: +/- 14.092

Lag Fix: Yes (avaialable )

Pros: The ONE Rom to upgrade to.  I tried Cognition, Perception, and Darky and this one just works.  Everything ran great out of the box, all my apps installed, etc.  It feels really FAST.
BATTERY, BATTERY, BATTERY!!!  The best thing about this rom is the battery life.  On other roms, I had to charge mid day.  This rom goes all day and then some.
This is a typical day, streaming Pandora for 30 mintues commute one way, piping it to bluetooth headphones.  GPS driving for 45 mintues to 1 hour. 30 minutes of surfing. 3-5 hours of playing mp3's - all while off the charger from 7am to 11:30pm - and have 15% battery left!!!
GPS locates you pretty quick when on the dash (if I see an intersection and turn it on, it will locate me before I get to the intersection - so fast enough)
This is a stable rom, the creator includes a number of modems to try if the default doesn't work.

Cons: One game did not load (NFS Shift).  All other games worked fine.  Other than that one thing, I really don't have anything negative to add.

Comments: It doesn't get much press, maybe because there aren't lots of problems with it?

ROM Name: Cezar's Continuum SE v1.2

Kernel Used: Comes with Speedmod but I installed Firebird2

Days of Use: <5

Quadrant Score:~1700

LinPack Score: Havent done yet

Lag Fix: Yes Voodoo

Pros: Once again another mainly stock rom of cezar with a few minor changes, Fast especially with Firebird2 Kernel, I find it smooth, GPS works and get a lock fast, can be very customizable to what you want it to be

Cons: Do have some lag issues sometimes and bootup is slow but that doesnt bother me much

Comments: Battery life seems to be the same for Firebird2 and Speedmod kernels, Speedmod seemed to glitch on me and the lag fix didnt seem to do much for me. Firebird2 has increased the capabilities of this rom greatly

ROM Name: Cognition 3.04

Kernel Used: Whatever the stock one is for Cognition

Days of Use: 2

Quadrant Score:1511

LinPack Score:14.109 MFLOPS

Lag Fix: Yes, voodoo lag fix

Pros: A very very stock experience!  Runs very stable and very smooth.  Hacked camera is nice, as well as the new font.  Battery life is at least as good as stock, if not better.  GPS is greatly improved over other roms I've tried and actually usable... locks nearly instantly!

Cons: Stock android unlock screen... I prefer the glass unlock myself.  That might be about the only con.  GPS still isn't perfect, but hard to consider that a con... I'm thinking the antenna on our phones just suck.

Comments:  This is my third flash, the first of which being Cognition 2.3b7 and the second being Perception 9.5.  This seems to be the best and most stable of the 3 I've tried now.  Its the closest to a stock experience you're going to get, and if your someone complaining about Samsung's incompetence in the official Froyo thread, this rom is for you!

ROM Name: Paragon RC4.0

Kernel Used: Paragon

Days of Use: <5 Days (5 days since RC4 but more since RC3)

Lag Fix: Yes! voodoo

Pros: GPS Lock within 7 seconds with 7 satellites, Fast, long battery life 24+ hours

Cons: Still get some lag, and i think it takes a long time to bootup

Comments: I am running the kernel at 1.2ghz with UV at -100mhz for each one and i have found the phone to be fast and stable and also get an extremely long battery life compared to cezar rom

also the original theme to the phone was nice but i added a steel blue theme and red swype

ROM: Ultimate 7.2

Days used: < 1

Lag fix: yes

Pro: Better than factory (obviously), pretty fast, good GPS, nice interface, cool boot up screen (from gingerbread I think), good batt life

Cons: Terrible reception/signal strength. Still a good bit of lag compared to other ROMS, like perception or cognition, no overclock, vibrate on touch (haptic feedback) was intermittent, camera kept crashing.

Comment: Terrible reception, in my room w the factory Eclair ROM i got 1-2 bars, with this I had to hold the phone to the ceiling to send a text message or walk outside.  For me haptic feedback is a must and unfortunately there are so many roms where it doesn't work out there, this is one of them, so that was a deal breaker for me.  Another thing was that A LOT of programs kept launching themselves and hogging up memory and I had to constantly kill them w taskiller.

Would not recommend.

ROM: Paragon RC5

Kernel 2.6.32.9

Lagfix: Yes Voodoo

Days of use: ~3

Pros: Where to start.  First off, most ascetically pleasing ROM I've seen to date, Very fast (but Perception build 5 is still the fastest I've used), nice customized Gingerbread keyboard with a green/black scheme. AWEsome signal strength, getting almost constant 3 bars in my room where I normally got 1-2 on Eclair, overclocking available, undervolting available, very nice animations with new windows/screens opening. Voodoo sound sounds great.  GPS locks from cold in about 10 seconds (satellite not cell tower).  Oh yeah, haptic feedback works.

Cons: Battery life was a little shorter than usual but I undervolted and now it's better than ever.  Just a tiny bit of lag sometimes, not bad though.

Comments: Overall, best ROM so far, while it doesn't quite get to Perceptions speed, the improved signal, sound quality and sleek look make it a wonderful package, I'm glad I tried this one.

Recommend: Highly

ROM Name: Adromeda 2.1

Kernel Used: Ursa Minor

Days of Use: ~9 days

Lag Fix: No

Battery Life: Average

Overview: Ok rom wasent bad but wasent good. This rom was suppose to be based off of a rom greatly simular to the Captivate base system "supposedly" making it run and act faster than i9000 roms. This is still a relatively new rom base so all of the quirks havent been worked out yet and still has some relatively minor bugs in it. Whereas most of the bugs have been worked out in the 2.2 i9000 roms

Pros: Stable, runs relatively smooth, cell signal good

Cons: I had a LOT of problems with this rom. Wifi didnt want to turn on half the time, kepted on getting error messages. Apps seemed to wanted to start on their own after killing apps with app killer and letting the phone idle for about 10 min i would go to app kill again and it would kill 10-15 apps. This let me to believe what caused the battery life to be average and not as great as some other roms that i have tried ( Could also be due to the kernel or modem but im guessing the constant renual of backgroudn apps)

Comments: i could get through a 18 hour day with this rom being unplugged but it would be around 20% with average use of texting, web browsing, pandora, and facebook use. I went and actually watched the battery meter fall as i stared at the screen for a minute and was amazed at how much battery life it ate up

also this isnt really a con or pro because it can be changed relatively easy but the shutdown animation sucked, suppose to be like a tv screen shutting off but it did it like 3 times which took away from the effect

Recommendation: Ok rom wouldnt recommend it but wouldnt say it was the worst rom ive tried

Wow, it is about 11 months later and I just wanted to say, i'm still using this rom without any issues. I tried a few others, but this one just works for me.  All my game/software issues have been resolved with updates from the developers. I did install launcher pro for the coolness factor and less resources used than the built in launcher. Battery life is a day of good use.  If I need more, use the built in power menu to turn off data and just use text and phone for days on one charge. I'm happy to say, this will be on my cappy till I can upgrade to a galaxy s II.
