I needed to sync my Outlook contacts to my Captivate. Looked everywhere. Found a few apps you can buy they say they do it, but the reviews where not so good. Then I found this:
http://www.syncdroid.net/kies

I installed the usb drivers from here:
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?AT_ID=304017&PROD_ID=558&PG_ID=-1&PROD_SUB_ID=0

Used The Kies app from here:
http://www.samsung.com/ae/consumer/mobile-phones/mobile-phones/infotainment/GT-I9000HKDXSG/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support
(click on software)
UPDATE: Upload of kies here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JDQ5B4I4

I was able to sync my contacts. When I connected the phone to the pc, I choose "update using kies" (or something link that) connection option that came up on the phone screen.
At this point I have only used it once. YMMV.

 Big Grin

I am running Windows 7 64bit

Hope it works out for you. Kies seemed to run fine. I pretty sure the link I gave is the full kies program. It does not have support in the U.S. for some reason. It seemed to work fine for me.

Nice find ranger.

I'm sure it'll be a big help to all those out there that have been pulling their hair out trying to do just that!

If you go to control panel/ add remove programs you should find "SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones" . Uninstall it and try to re-install it.  In windows 7 64 bit the folder for the drivers is: Local Disk(C:) >Program files (x86) >Samsung   In that folder you will see the folder "USB Drivers" . After uninstalling from add remove apps, check to see if that folder is still there. If so, delete it and try to re-install the drivers. Home this helps. Let us know. By the way what operating system are you using?

I removed it from the add/remove programs list and it said it was successful but the name remained on the add/remove list. When I clicked it again it said something like "there is no program associated with this, remove program from list." I did that and I still got the error.

I looked in program file folders, my documents and even just the C drive and deleted everything samsung related. Even stuff from the PC studio that was used for the eternity and I still get this error. THat's when I checked the device manager and noticed that it wasn't even listed.

I even got fed up and did a registry cleaner and it's still a no go Crying

I am old school. I use windows xp. I have a disk to upgrade it to vista but I hated vista so I refuse to upgrade again.

There is a uninstall.exe file in the driver folder I posted a link to in the first post. Give it a try.

Thanks! I will check that out tonight. Hopefully that works. Looks like i'm stuck unless I can get rid of the remaining traces of the drivers.

Something else you may try is a system restore to before you installed the drivers. Good luck.

This morning I was going to try kies again. When I started it, it had an update. I choose to do the update. After the update kies did not connect to my phone. My pc still did, but not kies.
I unistalled kies and reinstalled it and it is working again. Do Not do the update. YMMV.

I used the uninstall link in the drivers file and it did get rid of the lingering drivers.

Couldn't connect to kies still but it also prompted me to update so i did lol.

I am getting gray hairs over this program.

Try just uninstalling kies then reinstall without doing the update. Good luck.

Thanks ranger. At the very least you helped me fix my driver issue.  I don't know if anything can fix my kies issue lol But I will try.

Thanks again.
