Samsung offered to fix my GPS, by 7 day turnaround.

Anyone here that has done that and noticed an improvement with the GPS?

I am sending mine in tomorrow. Going in for bad battery/random shutdown/gps.

They tell me it will be 7-10 days. I think it will be longer.

For those wondering, at&t does not do loaner phones. They let me get a go phone for 38 bucks that I can use. It's a bare bones crap phone that I can barely hear calls, but it will get me through I guess.

Here goes the captivate withdrawal.....

I called 611 from my Captivate (1006 build refurbished bought in October) to tell them about random shutdowns (once or twice monthly) & GPS worthless.  ATT shipped new Captivate (free) received in five days and I have to ship my old one back within 14 days.  My new Captivate is a 1008 build, GPS tracked within 15 seconds at 70 mph on the interstate, amazing.  Called ATT on 6/21 received new one 6/26 via USPS.

Thats the thing. I still have my impression. I could be okay until I get the cappy back. But I let my wife have the impression and she likes it so much she will never give it up.
So I guess I have to be the good un-selfless husband and let her use it.  Happy

So the good news is my captivate is on its way back to me already. The bad news is that I sent them the wrong charger cord, so they didnt do ANYTHING. Just boxed it back up and sent it back.  Apparently I sent the worng charger cord.  Angry

So they were supposed to fix random shutdowns/gps/battery drain. It charges up just fine. That does not make ANY sense. That woulod be like your mechanic not fixing the stereo on your car bacause you have after market rims.

STUPID!

Now I have to decide if I want to just deal with the problems until I can switch to a different phone when the contract is up, or if I want to send it back again.  HUH?

And Samsung doesnt have the correct cords for one of their phones?!?!  HUH?

WTH is up with that!  Sorry to hear that bro.  Have you looked into some of the custom ROMS and such and seen if any of that improves your GPS? I've run several and all of them have had one GPS fix or another that lets my phone get a lock within 10m almost immediately...or at least under a minute for sure.

Ouch Joey that totally blows -- cannot believe that!

I don't rely on my Cappy's GPS, because we bought a Garmin. However when I've tested the GPS on my Cappy, it worked fine...locked on in under 10-15 seconds, and that was with me sitting inside my condo.

Tried ATK and juice defender, didnt seem to help. Battery life is my main issue, I can deal with the rest. Sometimes I will unplug the phone in the morning and within 3 hours of being on standby in my pocket, its down to 50 percent. WIFI/GPS/BT all off.

I have tried 2.1, Cognition 3, and SNL Purple_licious. I reverted to stock and updated to 2.2 through kies just before I sent it in to samsung, so I am going to try to see what stock 2.2 will do with the issues.

I have a TOMTOM for when I need reliable GPS, but it is nice to look something up on google maps and then get adequate directions.

This is my 4th samsung phone. Eternity, solstice, impression then the captivate. Problems with all of them. I think I am done with samsung. Overall this is the best phone I have ever had, but thinking about getting a Motorola, HTC thunderbolt or HTC 3d phone with my next upgrade.

First off the battery issue has always been there for this phone and is probably kernel related.  If your phone is rooted you could always try a custom ROM, I personally use Mosiac V and love it, not only is it a Gingerbread ROM it also has a custom Kernel and I personally get a full day on one charge.

Secondly dont waste your time sending the phone back to Samsung for the GPS issue, the GPS issue is really a configuration issue that some developers have been able to resolve.  If you follow the attached link it will take you a developer that has been able to pretty much resolve the GPS issue, again I personally use this fix and GPS works fantastic for me and Ive never sent the phone to Samsung to get the GPS replaced.  Hope I was able to help...

Got my unrepaired phone back. Nice to have it back. Time to shop for kernels/roms again.

That's good to hear. And it's working properly again.

Have fun getting it all tweaked out again.

Still having problems even with different rom, only worse. This morning, I unplugged it, put it on standby in my pocket, and checked it 10 minutes later to find the battery was at 27 percent! And it still shuts down twice a day.

Waiting for my aftermarket battery. Still fuming over the lack of warranty support. :-(
