Need some help, I cannot get my phone to be recognized by my pc via usb
Iv tried three windows XP machines up here at work..none of which recognize it as a device, windows dosnt even try to get it drivers for it.

Iv tried my home laptop which is windwos vista, same thing... nothing happens..I plug it in and nothing ...windows dosnt do anything.

Now.. on ALL these machines I have installed kies mini(did the restart) Iv also installed the drivers for the Captivate from the samsung website, still nothing... computers dont see it. Iv also tried to use the standard kies as well as using that programs "reinstall driver" function..nothing.

Iv tried USB debugging mode, does nothing, Iv tried setting up the USB on connect to every option there is..nothing

My phone is not rooted, I had launcher pro on it but it was just on it and only used once, so I deleted it...to see if that was the problem...nope
Iv searched the web for the same issue and tried out the fixes here..nothing.

I attempted to talk to samsung tech support, they told me that I need to do a master reset of my phone to get the PC to recognize the phone...is this true?..it seems like my last option.

Did you go to the pull down menu on the phone and mount it after connecting the usb cable?

Sorry to hear that.  The only other thing I can think of is the USB cable itself.  I've heard that some Captivates shipped with charging only USB cables that weren't capable of data transfer.  Try another cable.  Maybe you can borrow one from someone you know with a Cappy to check it out.

I guess my phone is screwed. Bought A new data cable. and...drum roll.....NOTHING none of the PC's will recognize it as a device..hell they wont recognize it as anything just sits their laughing at me.  I did everything I mention already with the new data cable +hardreset +talk to it nicely...im dreading that conversation with samsung.

Samsung is now at the bottom of my list of phone companies..yes I base this one phone and one experiance....not to mention I confused the samsung tech support with the words cell phone, kies mini, and PC.
Its 2011, I should not have a problem making any pc recognize my phone.

Are you following this guideline?

http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=558&AT_ID=368733

From what I can tell, Step 3 is pretty critical to get MiniKies to recognize the phone.  I also did an uninstall/reinstall of Kies since I didn't have the most recent version and couldn't seem to get Mini to recognize it needed an update.

Now, all I'm stuck on is the first part of Step 4, because when it goes to find the firmware version, it tells me "unable to connect to server at this time, please try again later".

This is only the 2nd day I've attempted to upgrade...glad I wasn't on the "OMGiGOTTAgottaGOTTAhaveFROYO" bandwagon or I'd really be peeved right now...

Yeah..see thats the problem..if the computers wont recognize the phone as plugged in..then kies, mini kies are not gonna recognize it.

So I went to the ATT store, after about an hour with one of the more knowledgeable guys with my laptop and my phone, and his computer..still could not get my phone to connect to a pc...

so he went to the back and got a new Captivate and plugged it in my computer..and BAM it worked just fine...he was also using the usb cable that came with my phone..so it wasnt the cable, or my pc that had the problem...it was my phone..

to shorten this...ATT is sending me a refurbished phone in the mail, and then i gotta send mine back..hopefully it will work

My Captivate is having the same problem. When I first got the phone it worked just fine but the last few months it won't work at all. I have a feeling it has something to do with the software update to 2.1. I haven't gone to AT&T yet but I did try a factory reset last night and it still won't work. So frustrating!
