Two things I've noticed about the Captivate:  Java applets do not work and animated GIFs are not animated.  I did some online searching about Android and java and read somewhere that the java folks claimed Android was something of a rip-off of java.  Is that why it doesn't work?  I've tried the default browser and Skyfire.

I can live without java, I guess, but I'm perplexed why the animated GIFs don't work - many weather sites use this format for their radar & satellite animations.  Is there a setting that I have missed?

Here is an example of an animated GIF that my phone only displays as a static image.

Another forum says animated GIFs will be supported on Android 2.2.

I Have a Weather Station and a Weather Page (see signature).  I noticed the problem too.  I did find a fix by using 2 different browsers.  If I go to my weather page, www.jolietwx.com, using the standard browser the animated Radar GIF's don't animate..  I also have a Live weather page that uses flash. For some reason the page works on the srtandard browser but not in any other browser. (Choose "Live" in the Menubar, then choose Weather Displayt Live.  It works Great on Android 2.1 that does not have flash! Now if I go into my Opera Mobile 10.1 beta and go to my site, the animated GIF's work but when I go to the "Live" page it says I need at least Adobe 8 Flash.  I also noticed the animated GIF's worked on Skyfire but I have not found any other browser that shows my "Flash" page besides the original.  Go figure...

Oh, I just tried your "Snow" page in the stock browser and it did not animate but it animates in Opera.  Now that is strange

I hadn't gotten around to installing Opera, yet, even though I used the mini version on my Incite.  It does indeed display animated gifs, although the other browsers still do not.

Interesting note:  Opera Mobile is the only browser I have found so far that works with Logmein, which saves me from forking out $30 for the Android app for logmein.  It also works with an embedded internet controller I designed at my last job.  This product controls various lights and devices in my home, so I am glad to have access via the Captivate.  Thanks for pointing me to Opera...I don't know when I would have gotten around to trying it on my own (eventually, I guess).
