I got a CAPTIVATE just 2 days ago and used SIM card from previous ATT Phone - an LG Shine.   I was told that I would be able to upload my address book to the ATT website and edit it there.  After repeated tries and an hour or so on ATT help line, I have not been able to complete this.  It doesn't upload / sync!   The sync log shows it tried to sync every 15 minutes since I purchased the phone but failed every time!  Help folks said that there is an issue with this phone AND their website which is being 'worked on'.

All I want to do is get the address book out of the phone and edit it either on the web OR using some software on my WINDOWS computer!   Does anyone know how I might do this?   I have not had time to experiment but thought that I would ask the question here in case someone else had found a way to do it.

The phone seems to be really great but would like to get phone book cleaned up and entries added and it would be a lot easier using a keyboard rather than a couple of fat fingers...

I don't know about the shine software, but if you can get the contacts exported as vcard files, the Captivate can import them easily.

I used the SHINE SIM card in the CAPTIVATE.   Fellow took it out and put it in the new phone.  All the numbers I had in there are still there, but I would like to get them out to some kind of editor on the computer so I could add email addresses etc more easily.   SO I guess the issue is how do I export the data out to my computer and in what format will it come out as.  Can I use something to edit it or will it be binary junk?

If you go into the contacts of the phone you can export the contacts to the sd card as a vcf file, which if memory serves correctly can then be edited with something like excel. You could also just update all the contacts into your gmail contacts address book and then using that solely as your contacts on the phone. It's probably the easiest way if you wasn't to use   the computer to edit contacts quickly.
