Can you download apps or listen to music, or do email while you are on WiFi? This way I don't use any of my data downloading apps or anything else. Please let me know.

Also, I will be getting my new Captivate tomorrow. I am very excited. If there is anything that I need to know right off the bat, please let me know. Really worried about the one major concern I keep reading about and that is the phone shutting down. So again, any info or advice you can give me for when I get the phone would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can download apps or listen to music while on WiFi. And yes, you can also do email while you're on WiFi.

My opinion is after draining the battery, charge it for about 6 hrs then use it normally. And for the shutting down issue, I really think it's a phone issue. I had that problem a couple of weeks ago but when I returned it and changed it to new, the problem didn't occur again. If it's not the phone then I think it's an app issue installed.

Yes you can download, listen to music, send & Receive email on WiFi. I think you can pretty much do anything except make a call and text message on WiFi.

There are plenty of stickies here with plenty of info for you to read and learn all about the Captivate. If you don't see a thread on what you need use the search.

It's hit and miss with the shut down problem. I've had my phone for about two months and in the last 2 weeks it has shut down on me 3 times. My daughters friend had hers for about 3 or 4 weeks and hers started shutting down 5 to 6 times a day. She did a restore and it has not done it since. it's been 3 weeks since she did the retore.

Thanks for the info guys. I appreciate the help.

One more question. If your say at a starbucks, or anywhere that has a wifi connection, do you have to always get a password to access it with the phone? Or is there an app or another way that you can connect to a wifi connection without a password? Thanks again for all the help.

The WiFi spots that I have been near were open. No password so I was able to connect. I connected the same as if I was at home.

It depends on the hotspot of course, if it has security then it has password. But often times it's free so there's no password.

You can make calls and text messages on Wifi if you use Google Voice, just that it will be from your Google Voice number and not from your Captivate number.
