I just wanted to say thanks to the forum.  I have been reading for the past few weeks since I purchased my Captivate, and everything I have read on here has convinced me to return this phone.  I love the phone, and I would be willing to wait for the 2.2 update, but everything I have read on here and other places about Samsungs past history with updating their phones has convinced me its not worth the risk of going past my 30 day limit waiting for the update.  Especially if all the other updates are going to be like this.  I have never had any issues with AT&T and don't want to have to switch to another service but I want a good android phone and this is the only one AT&T has from what I can tell (and I definitely don't want an iphone).  Thanks for all the great info!

ummmmm...okay. The phone is an awesome phone even with the update shortcomings. Sorry to hear that you won't be keeping it though, it's unfortunate to hear that, especially when one considers all the gear things that can be done without the update.

Good luck. Oh, which phone are you going too be getting instead then?

I agree, it is a great phone.  If I had the patience to learn how to root the phone correctly I would but I would much rather keep it stock.  However, I am having a difficult time trusting that this phone will continue to get the support it deserves.  I have 3 days left before my 30 days runs out and its taken me this long to come to some kind of decision.

I'm not sure what phone I will get.  I will probably go back to my old phone in the time being.  I don't want to switch from AT&T but the Captivate is really the only phone they have right now that I like...

casdm9901, I have the 2.2 Froyo update on my Captivate and it's really not all that.  In fact, because I've had a few quality issues with it - the phone froze up twice in the past week - I've even considered going back to 2.1, simply because the update doesn't seem to be a whole lot different.  Nothing I couldn't live without, and my Captivate was just as fast and rock solid w/ 2.1.

I don't know what you've got to have in 2.2 that your Captivate doesn't already have,  but if you really like the phone, why change?

Flash capabilities for one, but I've read that some of the newer ROMs take care of that issue

Flash is the biggest thing but I also would like to know the phone is going to be supported like it should be.  I must say though, I have been looking at other phones from other carriers and I haven't found anything I would rather have.

I really haven't looked into rooting the phone since I wanted to keep it stock but I may spend the next day looking just to see what my options are since I still have a couple more days.

Flash to a third-party rom such as Cognition or Perception or Auxora http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=706 and you won't even want samsungs version of 2.2.

But I agree the fact that they won't put it out is retarded, and based on previous experiences with other phones they won't.

Yeah, thats my biggest fear...no support.  Just go buy our newer version of the phone.  Yeah right.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I just didn't want to have to go that route.  I have been reading about it and I'm sure with my luck I would be one of those people who bricks their phone.
