HELP: Captivate Won't Connect to DM to update and Won't Connect to Kies!!

Ok here is the deal:

I recently got my Samsung Captivate and it works pretty well (even the GPS) however, when I try to update is (manually) it takes forever trying to connect to the server and in the end it never does (and thus I cannot connect for another twenty-four hours).

So I said ok, i'll use Kies to update the phone, so I download Kies and try - however, the when I connect Kies says "The Device is not supported by Kies" and as such I cannot interact with my phone in this manner.

Here are my specs:

My phone:
Firmware Version: 2.1 - update 1
Build Number: Eclair.UCJH7
I am running TouchWiz (in fact I never got anything else), but I made sure using "Home Switcher".

My Computer:
Windows 7 (32 bit)
Kies 1.5.3.10103_100_2

I don't have the new update and I can't get it.  I can never connect to the AT&T server.  It always gives me the error message telling me it can't connect.  I can't connect through Kies either.  Is there anything I should or could do?  I have had the phone since July.

I am still running the I897UCJF6 version. I have tried to update to the JF7 but can't.

Thank you guys for your help.  I did the Kies Mini and all worked well.  It froze up on me during the download (small amount of panic) but I restarted it and all is well.  I got the new update.  Thanks again for your help!

"supposed" to be November 11th stateside release...we'll see...
