Any advice about how to unlock my Captivate ?
I do travel and I do want to use SIMs purchased elsewhere.

Please note that I did upgrade my Captivate to Android 2.2, and that seems to work perfectly so far.

I did find some web sites which offer unlock codes, the cheapest is www.TheUnlockShack.com - for about $8 - shall I trust them?

just wondering are you rooted at all? Im guessing that it is looking for a superuser permission and it is getting denied access to your phone. If you are rooted then make sure debugging is enabled (if enabled when you plug in your phone to your pc there should be a little bug in the notification bar of your phone) then try and run the script again and make sure your screen stay ON and see if superuser tries to access permission because i know that when i did some modding to my phone if you want to get into the adb shell, which is what this program is doing for you, you need to get superuser permission

Yes, I am rooted and debugging is on.
Nothing on the screen at all during running this bat file.

hmm im just a little befuddled on this because it is saying permission denied which to me means that superuser does not have the correct permissions for the program but also superuser usually is not involved in this and you should have to do anything. Ill see if i can dig something else up for you

Thank you
Seems rather complicated and I don't want to risk bricking my phone

Do you know if those websites who offer the unlocking code for $8 are good?
Shall I trust them?

well actually they arnt that risky, in my opinion at least

have you tried calling att and asking them to unlock your phone? All that you have to do is tell them that you travel out of the country a lot where att is unavailable and would like to unlock your phone so you wont have to pay roaming charges and they should tell you how to unlock your phone

all that the above links are doing is pulling a number which is embedded in your phone which allows you to use another carriers sim card and att can get that number for you

they are not helpful either.
I purchased a code yesterday from TheUnlockShack.com and today they refunded my purchase saying that they were unable to find the code for my phone.
I will call ATT today and see if they'll do it for me

After a few more tries, and installing adb on my pc, now I get a different result - see attached.
This is better than the other day, but still doesn't seem like a full unlock code which should be 8 digits, not 5.
Any new ideas?
Thank you
