Ive noticed on my Captivate that after i have set my ringer volume to 100% on both the voice call volume and the notification volume, that my notification volume drops down to 25%. Ill get a text and sometimes i dont hear it or i notice the volume is very low then i go into settings then sounds and display and ringer volume and ill find the notification volume is back down to 25%.?? Could this be part of a power saving mode option? I do have the power saving mode on on my device. Is there an option im missing that i have to reset? Ive had this phone a little over a week now so any helpful hints would be appreciated.

If all else fails, you could download the mp3 or whatever file is being used for the notification tone, use something like Audacity to amplify it, then re-upload it.  A fair amount of work, but at least it would work.

Have you experimented with the default volume levels using the service menu?   I'm not sure which item it is but maybe it is accessible.  See this link:

I had the same problem and found it related to using the ATT text services; such as check my minutes.  Sending those requests through the phone reset the notification volume.  I've not had the problem since the the My Wireless app started working.

geppert, its not that the sound needs to be amplified or louder its that the volume for the notification tone is being automatically lowered from 100% to 25%. I dont know why, its some kind of setting issue i think.

Dizzy, Did u get the my wireless app from android market? Also was the my wireless app free?

   Thanks for the responses

I get the same thing and it is quite annoying.

I've noticed that the app that comes with the Captivate called 'navigation' will change your system volume to 100% which is quite annoying, so it is probably an app that is messing with the notification volume. Anyone know of a way to just lock these?

The app I was refferring to is the AT&T mywireless app that gives data usage.  It shows me data usage and will allow me to 'upgrade' the data if I need to.

What I was was that i'd go in and set the notification volume to 100% and then I would use the phone to dial the code for "Check my data usage".  That code was resetting the notification volume back to 25% for some reason.

If none of the AT&T codes were used (I deleted them from the phone), then I've not had the volume go back down, yet.

After you delete them, how do you figure out how much data you have used? I don't have unlimited, so I check it from time to time.

The AT&T MyWireless App allows you to view / change your account information including minutes / txt / data and billing.  It also runs through WiFi so  you don't use your data to view the usage.  I recommend using that that app.  I'm not sure why it's not included by default on the phone; but it's in the short AT&T list on the android market if you want to install it.

I have the same issue. ONLY, yes only, notification volume returns back to around 25% after checking my account balance, which is barely audible in a semi-noisy room.

I'm using the Captivate out of the US I live in Malaysia and I'm connected to a local mobile service company here.

I've noticed that this happens on both Eclair and Foryo, and I may link it - with some level of certainty - to when I check my balance (sending *122# through dialer).

I presume that this is a dialer/phone issue that resets the notification volume.

I have the same and exact annoying issue. Notification volume resets to it very low and non-audible level at around 25%.

I may link this -with some level of certainty - to when I check my account balance by typing *122# in dialer.

I live out of the US, using the local mobile service here in Malaysia btw.

Yes sure I did. This is common sense. The issue is that notification volume returns to its low level after receiving a notification from my Mobile company through the DIALER program.

This problem still exists on my phone.

Anyone still having the same issue and if not how or what did you do to correct the problem?

Thanks,

hi friends i have found out how to keep the notification volume up! i almost gave up on my captivate but i tried one more thing- follow my steps
1) GO TO YOUR SETTINGS MENU
2) CLICK ON SOUND
3) SCROLL DOWN TO "NOTIFICATION RINGTONE"
4) SCROLL ALL THE WAY UP TO "SILENT"
5) GO TO YOUR MESSAGE, THEN OPEN THE MENU FOR IT!
6) CLICK ON SETTINGS
7) SCROLL TO SELECT RINGTONE AND SELECT WHICH EVER ONE YOU DESIRE AND THAT IS ALL!
Eyes Rolling GO BACK TO YOUR PHONE SETTINGS AND RAISE THE NOTIFICATION VOLUME AND IT SUPPOSE TO STAY UP!

SEND A TEST MESSAGE FROM ANOTHER PHONE TO SEE IF IT WORKS!
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKED FOR YOU!
