We have two Captivates and they both have the same problem.
We set the control for notification volume slider to max and when a notification happens, it goes down to almost minimum all by itself.  We did a factory reset - what a pain to reload all apps and pics afterwards.  The reset didn't stop the problem,  Any ideas?

You could try an app called android audio profile from the market. I use it to automatically set sound levels for days and nights. That might keep it from resetting the volume.

Thanks Joey.
I downloaded it and set it up.
As soon as I got a text, the notification volume on the phone dropped.  If I go to "settings" and "sound" it shows a low level on the slider.  If I open up the sound app- it still shows as set to max and when I go back to "settings" and "sound" - it has moved back to max.  So, I would have to reopen the app after every message to reset it to max.  I do that now by going to settings to reset each time. Thanks for trying.
Any other suggestions, people?

Sounds like you need to open a problem ticket with your provider or whoever you got the phone from and start the process of them replacing both units.
