First post after picking up my Captivate yesterday.

Has anyone come up with a way to remove AT&T's bloatware?

There was a way with my Nokia E71X to get into the file system and remove it on rebooting.

Is there any similar work around with the Captivate?

Did you find any solution? It is taking a lot of time while rebooting because of all the applications during start up.  Sad

I've done the Unleash the Beast and it worked great.  However I do have a couple questions.  When Samsung releases updated software will I be able to download and install it?  If so, will it overlay/remove/undo the Unleash the Beast software?

From my understanding, you can not OTA update if you're root

I don't believe it is to do with being rooted, I believe it's to do with using Unleash the Beast. I am rooted and still OTA update. I uninstalled UTB because I couldn't OTA update.

i havent personally have not done unleash the beast, from what people have said you cannot do OTA updates right now there is only 1 OTA software you can download but from my experience it really does nothing and the next update that you will have to do will have to be done through kies or kies mini or take it into the att store for the 2.2 froyo

First of all, I just bought my Captivate like 4-5 days ago. Therefore, this is a Captivate-noob speaking.

I've rooted my phone with the one-click-root thingy, now is UTB the correct method to remove my at&t bloatware? Or is there something else?

Also, Titanium backup didn't work for my phone. Never backed up anything, said some particular settings need to be applied from the phone settings menu, which I couldn't find on the menu. But I did do a whole copy/paste backup ( Sticking out tongue ) of my internal SD card before rooting, just in case.

My question is, should I go ahead with the UTB? Is it safe? Will be able to update to Froyo in the future?

Again, apologies if I'm sounding stupid - it's just I am one, with the phone, that is. Sticking out tongue

From one relative droid-newbie to another, I would avoid UTB.  I used it, but had to go back to the stock setup to get updates.  I've since installed Cognition's Froyo version.  It works great!

As for Titanium backup, what were the "particular settings" that needed to be applied?

This is what I see :

** And it seems like I'm not the only one with this problem. There are several similar threads (example here) in XDA, though theres no real solution or explanation. :S

And I do have USB debugging enabled :

And these are all the apps I see on TB  :
http://i55.tinypic.com/28cdmxw.png
(and trust me, my phone is rooted. I rooted it myself with the one-click-root program. I can clearly see the ninja icon on menu.)

I've started to think that it might be the root? Should I root again? Perhaps a fresh start? As I'm also giving a thought about giving the phone a factory-settings-restore then root and then try again? Any suggestions?
