My new billing cycle started on the 24th of October. I just got a text saying I am already 65% used of the 2mg...HOW on earth would that be?? I get on to check facebook and emails, but dont really do a lot of video streaming, music streaming, etc... I find this really hard to believe.

BUT, I also was told I need to go to wifi when at home..so I'm trying to do that, and when I enter my pw and try to connect, it acts like it is remembering the network, but then doesnt connect. Or if it does connect and I try to check my mail it says I have an error. I am right in front of the computer so I know I am close enough for it to work, what could the problem be? I want to reduce my data-- I only have 35% to use and have to make it another 3 weeks without going over!!

DataPro 2 GB
1363.34 of 2048 used

Oops sorry, I got the wording wrong on my first post--this is what the ATT page says. And I have 23 days left in my billing cycle. This is the highest plan you can get right? Ive seen most of you mention you dont even get close with the 200 plan

Thats alot of usage. One thing You can do to help reduce some usage is make sure your Backround data is off. Backround data is when certain apps send and recieve info using your data usage whenever it wants.

I only turn it on when I go to the market and turn it off when I leave the market. Also helps save battery power to.

I still think thats way too much data to use for just facebooking and emails. Im not familiar with music streaming or video streaming because I know they use alot of data.

That's a LOT of usage... especially in that short amount of time.  I have corporate email on mine and that's syncing constantly... along with the web surfing and other data apps I use and I'm still only at 665Meg on day 30 of my billing cycle.   Granted, I do use WiFi as much as I possibly can... so even doubling that amount doesn't get me to that type of usage, and that's over an entire month.

You may want to install something like 3G Watchdog to track your daily usage of data.  If you're really pulling down a couple hundred meg a day, then there's something really amiss that needs to be tracked down.

What's your typical day of cell use?  In other words, are you surfing constantly, streaming videos or songs, etc.?

to me sounds like you have a program running in the background that is gobbling up data, right by the signal bars is the 3G logo with arrows are the arrows constantly lighting up?

I dont do any music bc I was afraid it would use to much data so I figured I would wait my first month and see how much I used. I generally check my email 10-12 times a day (my hubby is deployed so I check to see if he writes) I also browse through facebook, but nothing like hours upon hours a day. Thats typically all I do. I do play Jewels or other games throughout the day, but maybe for 15 minute spurts or so. I dont do any video streaming... I do open my email on the browser instead of the Yahoo mail app bc it actually is accurate that way.

I will get 3g watchdog then. I have uninstalled The Weather Channel and the facebook widget-which I only had on my phone for about 12 hrs--but figured it was probably always updating. In fact, I got rid of all updating widgets for this fear!!

Punisher--yes they are always lit--I CANNOT connect to my wifi here at home and I dont know why.

What apps have you installed?

There is something really fishy about the amount of data being used.  based off your usage you shouldn't even be coming close to meeting the 200mb

Okay I just restarted my phone and it is charging. Here is what its doing. 3g symbol on notification bar is lit and the arrows are both lit. I tried connecting to my wifi here at home and after trying to connect it says it is unable. The password is correct.

Do you want to know all the apps I have? Or just ones I have recently installed? Is there a place to check by date?

Just the apps that you have installed recently. One of them is probably the culprit.

Also what you can go to settings-->abotu phone--->battery use

If you're lucky the culprit will be draining battery life too and it'll be easy to tell which app is causing the problem.

Battery usage is:
Display-90%
Android System - 5%
Cell Standby- 4%
Phone idle - 2%

Here are my apps by date (most recent)
Facebook
Fox2Now
Movies
Vlingo
Tweetcaster
USAA
Retro Camera
Trism
lia sophia
Diet & Food Track by Spark People
Favorite Recipes
Stop Watch& Timer
Beautiful Autum Wallpapers
Christmas Wallpapers
Photofunia
Coupons
Uninstaller

okay that takes me back to about 10/17/10

One that isnt listed here is Cardiotracker that was supp to record your calories and workouts I think. It was running at the top bar all the time, so I went ahead and uninstalled that one. Could that be it?

Also, these apps are always showing up when I go to my Advanced Task Killer and I dont use them. Can I delete them or will I need them later on at some point?

ATT Hot Spots
ATT Navigator
Instant Messaging

Or could it be this clock widget that I installed?? If it is I mean, the widgets take up so much data, whats the point?

For reference my battery usage is

Cell standby-38%
phone idle-27%
Display-24%

Does your display change at all?

I have facebook and coupons so I know those don't cause any trouble.

I had vlingo for a brief spell and didn't notice any weirdness.

I doubt retro camera, spark people, Usaa or uninstaller are doing it because they're fairly popular so if there was a problem i'm sure it would be reported.

Do you have a task killer installed? You can try closing down each of these programs one at a time to see if the arrows stop lighting up.

Good idea with the task killer.

I just plugged my phone in after it being dead for about 30 minutes, so Im not sure if thats why display is so high at this point?

Okay, so every time the blue and orange arrows light up, data is going through? Inever knew that. I swear they need to do a class on these or hand out more info!! I never knew that!

Yep if the arrows are still then nothing is going through but if their lit up it is.  When you first wake your phone up from being asleep the arrows light up(at least for me) but then they calm down unless I do something.

I would suggest keeping a close eye on your data and keep in mind there is a delay. Data used today might not show up until tomorrow. Call att and maybe ask them to lock down your 3g usage and let them know what's going on. I don't know if they'll do it but they probably know that 2gb of data in 1 week is just insane.
