Hi just got my Captivate today, love it but isn't there a speech to text feature for text massaging?

Also, I've noticed the charging port on the phone is very filmsy and the cable like to pop out easily, is there a trick here?

Also, how does one change the text message alert tone?

Thanks!

If you look under settings and scroll down you will see text to speech, and you can set the voice data.

Also, If you set your texting keyboard to Android you will see a microphone button there.
When you depress it you can automatically text what you are speaking. Really cool!! Might have to annunciate a little depending upon background noise and where you are but i thought it worked rather well when I used it.

Yes you have to push the door all the way open until it clicks, then the cable will click in also.

Thanks guys but what about the message alerts?  I've seen some people saying you have to create a folder and i guess use your own mp3s, but arent there default ones?\
Thanks again!

Menu -- settings -- sounds & display -- notification ringtone

If you have any mp3/ringtone apps installed (like Zedge), a window will pop up to ask what you want to use to complete this action -- choose Android System and it will take you to the stock list of pre-loaded messaging tones.

Yes you have to create your own folder if you install your ringtones onto your phone via your computer but if you do it via zedge or some other program your phone will automatically see them (at least from what I have found out)

Go to Settings > Applications > Locale and Text and Select "Set Default Keyboard" and set it to "Android keyboard".

Other than that you can long press on the text field in a text message (the white box where the letters you type appear and it should offer you to "Select input Method".  choose Android keyboard.

Theres also a program called vlingo on the market that works very well for speech to text. You just push a button and tell it what to do. It will call, text, and search google for you. Good work-around for texting while driving  Sticking out tongue
