New Captivate owner & new to the smartphone world. Anyway, today we went to red lobster for my sister's b-day. And since I use my wireless at home to use the browser, I have no problem getting onto the internet. But when I tried to use it inside the restaurant I kept getting the "Web page has been blocked" message. My question is... do you have to be near a hot spot to use the browser or can you use your data plan and vice versa? There were a couple of wifi connections detected, but all of them had poor service listed.

Thanks!

Any wifi will do, doesn't have to be a branded ATT Hotspot to use wifi around town.

Quick question, were you using the stock browser or some other broswer to get online (like Dolphin HD?)  I ask because some open wifi networks are open because they put up ad space when you first connect as well as a EULA that you have to go through.

Example: I was sitting in the Oakland airport (which has open wifi, but you first have to watch a 30 second commercial).  I opened the built-in browser first accidentally and did it all through that and then went back and opened Dolphin HD with no issues.  My wife, however, just opened Dolphin HD straight off, but was never taken to that OAK homepage and therefore never watched the ad/agreement page and couldn't get online until she did so with the built-in browser.  Since I was already connected and it was working, I didn't think to test it out, but it might be possible to access it in the Dolphin browser (or maybe not). Anyways, some food for thought the next time you are having trouble.

I have the default browser. It wouldn't let me onto a  :owebpage at all, but I could browse and download apps. So I am clueless!

Tried another browser yet? Check out dolphin hd (free) from the market and see if it works any better.

This is a refurbished phone too right? I wonder what the original issue was on the phone...

So after you got that error message the first time, you typed in the address of another site and tried again, unsuccessfully?

Well I think I found out the problem. I just tried it with wifi turned off(at home) and it worked. But, as soon as the actual data connection gets out of a 3G zone I get that same message. So I guess as long as my connection says 3G I can browse the internet without using wifi. Kind of sad if you ask me, but I guess that's AT&T's great coverage...

Ok problem is NOT solved. I finally got a chance to try connecting with the dolphin browser, and it still gives me the "URL has been blocked" message. Ugh!

"URL is blocked" huh?  This is an open wifi network right?  Not some business wifi that might have something like netnanny or some other internet monitoring program correct?

Only ask because I thought it didn't work at all and now you're getting that other message.  Or is that the same message that you've been getting the whole time?

It's the same message. I give up, it's not like a life or death situation. As long as I can still download apps and use them I should be fine.

Thanks for the help though!
