I haven't found it native on the phone, but there's an app called vlingo on the android market that will use voice for making calls and texts. Still playing with it but you can do searches with it and update facebook too.

You can use Voice Search, the mic button on the Google Search bar, and say "Call (contact_name)" and it will dial that Contact's number.  If you are talking about hands-free Bluetooth dialing, that is not supported in Android 2.1.  You can, however, use the Voice search method, and if your headset is connected, the call will come through the headset once it is dialed.

When we get Froyo 2.2 (some time this month is the rumor), it should have Google's new voice actions - which includes voice dialing.

"end of September" was the last quote from Samsung that I've found...

This doesn't work at all on my phone - anything I say, like "Call Jason" then just returns google results for that search term.

However, that vlingo app works pretty well. Thanks!

i tried the voice search on mine too, and the same thing happened. it returns only google search results.

i'm paying for voice dial through att;  however, will download vlingo & try it, and let all know the results.

Make sure you have contacts searchable by google:

Phone Settings --> Search --> Searchable Items

Then, make sure "contacts" is checked.  Mine works just fine.  You can also hold down the search button (magnifying glass on the bottom right of the phone) to access the same google/phone search without having the google widget installed.

like someone said earlier, if you have more than one phone number per contact (home, work, cell), you get the whole contact info, not just that one number...vlingo works; however, the same thing, with all of the contact info, then you have to look to press the number you want.

have not hooked up my bluetooth yet, and will try that next; however, this might truly be a 2.2 upgrade "wait & see".

I went to the Cognition 3.04 2.2 ROM. it tries to do the voice dial but never comes back with anything but "error". do I have to train it to my voice or is it just not quite ready in Cognition 3.04?

does this mean that when my phone is in my car, connected via bluetooth, i cannot voice dial through the car's system?    I have a 2009 Acura programed to dial via voice commands.
