Hey everyone, just bought the samsung captive today..

Been playing around with it, and one of the first things I did was connect it to my wifi at home. Everything worked perfectly for about an hour, perfect browsing, no problems.. Then I went into another room and it started acting up.. The browser said I had no connection, but my wifi connection itself was excellent. I have used the wifi for all sorts of things in this room and I know it works perfectly, it has to be a phone issue.

Now even if I'm in the same room where I know it worked before the browser wont connect at all.

Any help?

Well I found out what was causing my problem.. Whenever I connect the phone to my laptop it wont browse the web or do anything internet related despite having an excellent wifi connection. Every time I connect it to my laptop I have to turn the phone off and do a soft reset to be able to surf the web again..

I didn't install the program that pops up when I plug the phone in though, maybe that is the reason.

It could be.  How are you connecting the phone again - bluetooth? usb cable?

What program pops up to install??  There really shouldn't be anything pop up other than windows asking you what you want to do, unless something pops from your system tray about installing drivers...

Connecting it through USB.. It's not the USB 2.0 or whatever though as the laptop is ancient.. Has windows xp though, and when I plug it in an install wizard pops up. Not sure what it is for I just clicked cancel as I was just testing stuff out.

And it definitely is whenever I plug it in to the laptop.. I tested it pretty thoroughly.

Also another issue I'm having is that when I plug it in it gives me 3 usb options on the phone, mass storage, kias or something similar (can't remember), and another I can't remember lol.. Anyways I have no idea what these are for and am unsure if I should be using a certain one?? I figure mass storage is to use the phone like a usb memory card or something but what are the others?

The Samsung Kies is the program that let you sync you phone to PC, ect...
Mass storage is the built in SC card
Media player and PC internet is self explanatory.

Try putting your phone into debug mode and see if yo ustill have the same problems
with WiFi when connected to laptop.

Hi,

I bought the phone 4 days back..and I am also having the same problem of no internet connection (despite full wifi signal strengh on phone) when connected to computer thru USB. I had to restart the phone to get internet thru wifi on the phone after disconnecting from computer. It kinda sucks. How many of you have the same problem? I mean is it a bug they gonna fix or just only problem with few phones?

Same problem here. Tried all 3 USB options with same result. Also tried 2 different cables. If I turn of WiFi, it will access internet via 3G but turn WiFi back on and no access.

Running 2.1 not rooted.

I am having the exact same problem.  It's a bit frustrating to have to power off/on to get wifi signal back.

If anyone has a fix, please help~

I'm running 2.1 -update1

You guys that are having problems getting wifi after connecting it to the computer.  Have you installed all the proper drivers? What are you trying to do when connected to the PC? What USB mode are you using?

I tried to install 5.02.0.2 downloaded from Samsung. It says driver already installed, uninstall first. Uninstalled everything I could find. Still said driver already installed. I don't know how to find the correct one to uninstall since descriptions are not very specific.

I have tried all 3 USB modes with same result. Not a big deal for me since I don't connect to computer that often. But it would be nice to have everything work as it should
