If you already have a wireless network in your house, you don't need to buy anything else to connect to the internet at home. Is that what you meant?

What you're talking about is called tethering.  Yes it's possible, but not with stock 2.1 unfortunately.

Is this a desktop or a laptop that you are trying to do this with?  If it's a desktop, there are wireless cards that you put into the computer that are cheaper than the USB dongles you can purchase.  If this is a laptop, my goodness, how old is it that it doesn't have wifi built in!

There is a app called easytether that I used to tether my Captivate to my laptop. Your internet speed will be very slow. If you have WiFi in your home you would be better off getting the USB adapter or a WiFi card for your computer.

I have high speed internet through my cable company and I get 250gb a month. With AT&T all I get is 5gb per month. It will be well worth the money to get a USB adapter or card for your computer for both speed and download limits.

The speed of the internet I can deal with on my phone but it would drive me crazy if my computer was that slow all the time.

I just re read your post. I think what you are trying to do is tether your cell phone to your computer and surf the net on your computer using the WiFi not 3G from your phone.

I'm not sure if that will work. When I tethered my cell phone to my laptop I was at home and my WiFi was turned on but the tethering was working off my 3G not WiFi.

None of you read what he actually was asking (well a couple of you did there at the end).

It doesn't look like this is possible, I haven't found anything saying it is so far in all my forum searches in the past. I understand the Original Poster's wish to not have to spend money on a Wifi adapter if the phone he already owns will fill the function, but these days you can find USB wifi adapters for your desktop for a lot less than $50, which used to be the standard price. Follow Miscrap's link, or go to Newegg.com. You can find them for $10-$15 + shipping costs.
