HI EVERYONE! THEY CALL ME PAPPIE. I AM A 47 YEAR OLD FATHER OF TWO BEAUTIFUL TEENAGERS. I AM SADLY DIVORCED FOR 7 YRS. NOW. I AM 100% BED RIDDEN DUE TO MANY,MANY HEALTH PROBLEMS. SO AS YOU PROBABLY GUESSED I USE MY CAPTIVATE FOR EVERYTHING THAT I CAN,WHICH HAS PROVED TO BE VERY LITTLE BECAUSE I HAVE NOT BEEN SHOWN HOW TO HOOK MY ANDROID UP TO MY COMPUTER. I CALLED AT&T FOR HELP AND THEY CALLED IT TETHERING AND SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY EVEN MORE MONEY A MONTH FOR THIS SERVICE. I HAVE READ MANY SUGGESTIONS ON YOU TUBE BUT HAVE NOT FOUND THE ANSWER. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL AN OLD MAN HOW TO DO THIS WITHOUT HAVING TO GIVE AT&T ANYMORE MONEY? I'M NOT STUPID, JUST NOT ANY GOOD WITH COMPUTERS. PLEASE DON'T LAUGH TOO LOUD. THANKS, PAPPIE Big Smile  Embarrased

Hi there and welcome!

First things first, please try not to type in all caps on the forums.   Smile

To hook your phone up to your computer, all you need is the cord from the charger (without the plug head that goes into the wall) and a few other simple steps:

1. Connect the large end of the cord into a USB port on your computer
2. Connect the small end of the cord into your phone (same as if you were charging it)
3. A screen may appear on your phone with probably 3 options to "Select USB Mode":  Kies (Firmware Update) / Media Player / Mass Storage
4. Select "Mass Storage" (so you can transfer files to/from your phone/computer)
5. On your phone, touch the black bar at the top of the screen (with the battery icon, signal, & clock) and pull your finger down the screen.  This will open up a new gray-background "window"
6. There will be a listing that says "USB Connected" - Tap it
7. A new message will come up - press the "Mount" button
8. Your computer should now recognize 1, maybe 2 new external "drives" -- if you have a microSD memory card you added to your phone, you will see 2 drives listed.
9. Drag/drop files from your computer to the phone
10.  Reply back here if you have problems
