Hi guys.  I bought by Captivate back on Dec 16 and I loved it from the moment I started it up.  But as with any phone, I've noticed quirks here and there but overall, it's a great phone.  However, I replaced that phone just a couple of days ago because someone at the AT&T store said it was defective since it wouldn't update OTA.  1 big difference I've noticed between my 1st and 2nd phones is under the USB settings options: on my first phone I only had 3 options: Kies, media player, and mass storage.  On this phone, however, I have a 4th option: PC Internet.  Anybody else have this?  Is this to be the WiFi hotspot option for 2.2?  I used Google Navigate on Maps last night to test it out and the voice and GPS worked just fine (yay!).

Also I contacted Samsung about updating the phone and they sent me a link to download Kies and the steps it gave me I had to put my phone into download mode (where I hold both rocker volume buttons and plug it in) to install all the drivers on the pc and since then it seems to be a little bit laggy.  I just want official 2.2 w/o a ROM or rooting or anything gaaah!

What is Cognition?  I've seen it mentioned once, but I'm not sure what it is.  Do I have to root to put it on?

Cognition is a rom, basically a updated operating system, like switching from windows xp to vista. I switched a couple weeks ago. Also never going back. My gps never worked before. Now its flawless. Among other improvements like the user interface and improved battery life.

This option is only available on the original stock 2.1 OS -- it was removed with the Firmware update to 2.1-version1 (build Eclair-UCJH7).

Go to: Menu - Settings - About Phone
Check your Firmware version (will probably say 2.1)
Check your Build Number (will probably say Eclair.UCJH6)
