Hello! I am new to the Captivate, but have been in the Samsung family for awhile. Im moving over from the Samsung Mythic, which I never used any of the internet options with.

I feel like an idiot bc I don't seem to know much of anything. Im trying to search as much info as I can.

Im trying to make sure that I dont go over my 200MB plan without knowing it. Is there a way, other than logging into my ATT account, to see how much data Ive used?

I have so far just been using my own wifi at home while I play with this to try to figure it all out, so I know Im safe here, but what do I need to do to make sure when I leave my house that Im not pulling data from somewhere?

When I shut off WiFi it shows that my 3G is back in service. That just means that I can connect to the net if I want to right? But not that Im draining data without knowing it?

Im also trying to do whatever I need to do to save on battery life! Any suggestions for that?

Please point me to any threads that you think might be useful for me!

Can't wait to look around more and find out all the cool things this phone can do!

Hi there and welcome!

You might want to keep your wifi open at all times in order to avoid data charges as much as possible.  I've not had any noticeable battery drain by keeping mine on.

There's a contact in your phone called "AT&T View Data Usage" -- hit it and you'll get a text showing how much data you have, how much you've used, and when the end of the cycle is.

Keep bluetooth turned off -- that'll help save batter life.  Search the forums for "Advanced Task Killer" as an assist too.

Lots of great info here -- and enough to make you feel like you're drowning in too much info.  Take it in stride, try out the "search" function, and ask for help when you need it.  Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome and for all the help you've given in my other questions on the board!

I feel so lame when Im trying to get this phone to do things! I finally got a cover for it and its helping me to not hit things randomly when Im just trying to hold the phone and do stuff!

Still having trouble getting stuff just how I want it, but I know its gonna take some time.

Right now, with semi normal use, keeping my bluetooth off when I KNOW I wont be hooking it up anytime soon, and using the task killer... my phone lasts almost 3 days. I shut it off at night though as in the past I accessed the net while sleeping and had a huge bill on those pay per MB things! LOL

I will continue playing with this and searching the forum! So much to learn!
