Hello All,
Been a little while sense I posted. I wanted to ask some folks who know a lot about technology and are up to date on it.

I am in the market for a new MP3 player. Here is some back story. Several years ago the wife and I had I-pod shuffles. Ones battery failed, lost one, she has the last one stuck somewhere. Also, not a big fan of the I-tunes software. PLUS, most I-pods DON'T come with FM receivers. That's a big point for me. Gots to have my Mark and Brian.

Next I bought Sony Walkman MP3 players. One was dropped and lost the display, but the other one just stopped working after about a year and a half. I was not happy with that. Mostly pleased otherwise.

Next bought a San Disc Sensa Clip. That was a POS. Only got 9 hours out of the battery. And the shuffle feature was awful, kept repeating songs after only two or three songs. I had 32 gigs of storage and had about a thousand songs on it and I never got in the latter half of the list. I took it back to Target and got my money back.

All of that being said (I know shut up and get to the point), what do you like for your media player? And before you ask, I don't generally use my Cappy as a player. Too much battery use. And it's easier to carry a small MP3 player in my shirt pocket than it is to use the phone. Plus the ware and tare issue comes into play. My phone stays wrapped up in a handkerchief in my pocket, I work outside and in pretty dusty environments.

Thanks in advance folks. Any advise and suggestions will be appreciated.

Zune has been putting out good stuff I hear (never used them though).

The last dedicated mp3 player I had was made by a company called iRiver.  Solid equipment (felt like a brick in my hand), durable, and easy to use features/syncing.  THat said, this was like 6 years ago.  I know they've got a ton of other newer models out there, but the tough part can be finding a distributor in the US.  ANyways, just my .02 .

Here is their website in case you're interested.

I have a zune...one of the small ones, same size as ipod nano (the older rectangular ones). Like it a lot, but I just read somewhere that ms has discontinued the zune, but I dont know that for sure. Got it from compusa (tigerdirect).

I checked out the web site real quick. Also googled the E100 model. You can get them on Amazon as well as other sites. Looks like they run in the neighborhood of $100 to $150, depends on what storage size a person would want. 4 or 8 gigs. And with a micro SD slot that becomes pretty much a moot point anyway. I still have the 8 gig card from the last MP3. Also has FM radio w/recording. Going to look into it some more. Thanks for the suggestion.

Still a lot of research to do. That was the mistake I made with the San Disc unit, I didn't research it before I bought it. Normally I research this sort of stuff to death before I buy. Yet one more awesome aspect of the world wide web.

I have an old Zune in a drawer somewhere. The size of a TV remote and weighs about two pounds. I thought I heard something about the Zune being discontinued. They did have a small compact unit at one time.

I am sure the rumors you have heard would be based on Microsoft discontinuing new releases of Zune MP3 Players.. Not Zune entirely.. Zune is a name microsoft owns so Im sure Zune will still be around for the future especially on Gaming Consoles Such as XBOX and newer ones.. if anything just the name will change but for now Zune is microsofts way to sell media through their gaming console such as movies.. music videos.. etc.. But as far as mp3 players go anymore... short answer is no.. they should have already discontinued making new zune mp3 players as Microsofts goal is to focus on smartphones or media devices similar to the ipod touch... because kids nowadays love their mp3 players but they also want to play games on their mp3 players... so they are gearing mostly towards cell phones now in my opinion and dropping the mp3 players in the long run... But you also have to look at the majority of their clientele for these devices probably ranges from age 14 - 24.. so I dont know about any zune resurrection in the mp3 player world..

I totally looooooooooooooooooooooooove my Creative Zen!!!  <3

Granted, I got mine about 4 years ago (I think).  I got the 8GB model (for the same price as a 4GB Zune at the time).  Such great ability in such a small package -- about the size of a credit card and only about as half as thick as the Cappy.  MP3, videos (if compatible), FM tuner, photo gallery, and just a great interface.  The only reason I don't still use it is because I have the Cappy & don't want to carry two devices.

....and apparently according to their website, it's the "world's first 32GB flash media player"....

Thanks for the replies all. Going to look into the couple suggested.

I did charge up the zune. It's holding a charge and works fine. But it's so big. The size of the cappy but twice as thick and heavy.

Still shopping, Thanks.
