There has been a lot of anticipation and a slight sense of desperation amongst the techies to finally get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 which they believe could become the ultimate iPad rival. The tablet has gone on sale in the UK earlier this week and now it’s about time we reveal some hardcore facts about this beauty.

It would also be useful to keep a few things in perspective before we dive into the details of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. There has been an exchange of harsh comments between Samsung and Apple following the launch of the Tab 10.1. Apple has accused Samsung of blatantly copying iPad and Samsung has issued counter claims to defend its case.

When you look at the design of it, the degree of similarity with an iPad is something that you just can’t ignore. Samsung has even tried to match the dimensions of the iPad as the Tab 10.1 appear extremely slim and slick without much clutter and flimsy buttons on the sides.

You can find the controls at the top such as the volume control, sleep switch, headphone socket and the SIM slot whereas the charging socket is at the bottom. It also delivers stereo sound with concealed speakers on either sides of the device.

Other noteworthy differences are; its light weight, thanks to the plastic back and another interesting find is the camera located in the middle of the side panel which clearly states it prefers landscape as opposed to portrait setting on the iPad. The standard version comes with a 3MP camera whereas the 10.1V version will have an 8MP camera. Internal memory is similar to an iPad at 16Gbs. Whereas, the screen display appears slightly sharper and it also houses double the amount of Memory at 1GB when compared to the iPad.

I would buy one only if they allowed for an additional sd or micro sd slot. I dont get why they limit these devices so much. Thats the #1 reason why I have and will never own an apple product.

I realize not everybody is interested in the tablet computers, but I personally think they are perfect for my needs.  So even though I am not quite ready to buy, I am closely examining all the new ones as they come out.

Has anyone seen one of the new Toshiba Thrive Tablets?  There are several advantages that I know of, including the replaceable battery and the full sized sd card reader and regular and mini usb ports.

Also I was wondering if the Samsung Tab has the gorilla glass screen like the Captivate?  To me that is one of the most important differences in my phone compared to the i-people's stuff in general.

Charlene -- I bought an Acer Iconia tablet for the hubs' birthday and I love it.  Gorilla Glass too!  I bought a 32GB model for about the price of a 16GB Tab 10.1.

Shok -- most tablets have a micro SD slot...of course iCrap limits everything. LOL
