Dear members,

I've bought a Samsung Captivate , but I live in the Netherlands. So AT&T on the Captivate won't be of any help to me. I crossed an interesting article that completely removes AT&T from your Captivate.

I was wondering if any of you used this guide as well and had succes with it. Please share your experiences.

(I hope I didn't post a similar/double post)

Haven't used the guide you posted but....
If you root and decripple (which basically your link explains), you can disable the AT$T bloatware with Titanum Backup. It is better to freeze them than to uninstall because there may be co dependencies to other apps. As far as using it on other networks have a look here to unlock your SIM.

- I want to delete all the AT&T stuff, because I don't use the Network and I'm not inside the USA

- Unlocking the phone can be done much easier:
1. SGS Unlock tool @ Android Market->

2. Unlock Captivate @ Android Market

Well I just introduced myself the other day. Got the Captivate on the 16th. Within 6 hours rooted it. I used to hack my old HTC Wizard but cant claim to be an expert or even good at this stuff. I went with Android over iOS and W7 because I cant stand the way Apple and Microsoft extort you. Plus I tweak my tv set. I guess I just like to mess with stuff.

Anyway I used Unlockr.com to do the root and was very impressed. Very easy with just a hangup on the drivers and had to get around my laptop not giving me Admin rights. Used Windows Help and figured it out quick enough. Root went just as the tutorial laid it out. I used the Samsung site for the drivers.

Now its the 17th and I could not see that ATT Bloat on there anymore. Used TitaniumBU (Free) and Busybox to get that off. Didnt go as smooth because I didnt find a really good set of instructions to go by. Ended up using 3 different instructions that fit each one of my noob mistakes. Such as not sliding the taskscreen down and hitting USB connect when trying to get the laptop to recognize the device. I did have to reinstall TBU because for some reason the first time it did not BU my apps. Just my other files. Redid the install and jumped some hurldes and  now no more ATT. Well except ATTFam which seems connected to a necessary system file so I left it alone. Theres a few others but they have not got the boot yet

Really doesnt matter as i will be flashing Cog Rom in a few days anyway. Little scared about that even thuuough I back uped everything. We will see.
