My Captivate is currently on 2.2. Theres an official update for 2.3 from Rogers wireless in Canada. I also want to ROOT my phone. The superoneclick root method I want to perform is for 2.2. So do I update my phone 1st ? - theres no superoneclick root version for 2.3 ? If I ROOT my phone NOW while on 2.2 - then update to 2.3 - will the ROOT carry on over - will it un-root -will it not update to 2.3 - do I need to flash something (cause I dont know how to do that) So do I update 1st or ROOT 1st ? I am computer illiterate so no fancy words or techno jargon please -just simple answers, & procedures is muchly appreciated - Thank You ...

The root does not carry over, since an update replaces both the rom and the kernel version. The kernel is the file that carries root privileges. If you want to update  then update and find an upfate.zip file for rooting. Xdk developers website had a lot of options for rooting 2.3
