Captivators,

I just accidentally did a screen capture on my non-rooted froyo based captivate phone without any third party program.  I don't know what the heck I did, but the camera made a shutter sound and I now have an image in my gallery of my home screen.

I do know I was hitting the back button, but beyond that who knows.  I've read about holding down the back button and then hitting the power button, but that doesn't work on my phone or I'm just not doing it right.

Any idea's?   Does someone know how to do this without an app?

Thanks.

Note these buttons arent on your touchscreen they are your softkeys directly below the touchscreen...

First off make sure the cappy is running 2.2 froyo then hold the back button(backwards arrow) which is in between the search button(magnifying glass) and Home button(looks like house)..

While you are holding the back button(backwards arrow) softkey down. press the home button(house). You should hear a click.. if not try again.. if you dont hear it at all just check your gallery to see if it captured it should be under Screen captures or something like that in your gallery if you did it right..

Note: I am about 90% correct on this but i cant test it as my phone is nowhere near stock anymore and this is all I remember doing... But let me know if it works because i found that trick by accident pretty much the same way i learned how to capture the screen on my iphone about 5 years ago... I found this when i was playing with the leaked 2.2 firmware a little after 2.2 roms started coming out.  but its been a while since ive been on 2.2 and ive been rooted so long i havent worried about things like this in a while. Best of luck!

I don't understand this.  Angry This doesn't work, yet I every so often, do it on accident. #notafan obviously it's possible, but nobody can seem to get it to work on command without being rooted or having a seperate app, right?

I have not figured this one out yet. I have tried every possible combination of holding 1 button and pressing another. I focused most of my experimentation on the back and home buttons. My 2 yr old daughter managed to take a screen capture a few weeks ago so I know it works on my phone.

I did it on accident, too, awhile  back. I have no clue how I did it and I can't seem to take another screen capture. I know it's possible. But the method is a pain.

Why is this only able to be done on accident? I just recently did it again, but once I try to replicate it, I cannot. It seems that nobody has been able to do it on purpose... When I contacted Samsung directly they had no further info. Sticking out tongue

So is this only going to work on a stock OS maybe? I've never managed a screen capture, accidentially or other wise. I tried the back + home trick but it doesn't work. However it might make a difference that I have Go Launcher and not the stock OS...
