I used this easy fix and I haven't had a problem since:

First - plug in your USB cable to your pc and phone.
Go into the settings>wireless and network>tethering and portable hotspot
Click on USB tethering (this will start the service) and you will see a blue icon appear.
Now take the cable out of the phone and pc.
You can uncheck USB tethering.

This isn't working for me, as soon as I unplug the usb the box unchecks itself.  I haven't seen the forceclose error since then so maybe I am not interpreting your instructions correctly?

The directions that I read at AT&T never even mentioned unchecking the box, but I unchecked it when after I unplugged the phone.

Anyways...the fix worked for me for two days and its no longer working for me so this whole thread can be deleted.

Guys - FACTORY DATA RESET.   It's been written elsewhere.

I did this right after I upgraded to GB.   I haven't had the Tethering issue since (6 weeks)

Yes, you then have to reload your Apps, but I didn't have that many, and I've read it is better to reload the apps onto a fresh GB upgrade rather than trust that the AT&T upgrade did a perfect job in keeping them all in place and compatible.

I did a factory reset after the problem first appeared and after the advice of AT&T AND Samsung and the problem continued.

What DID work for me is rooting it and deleting the tethering app.

You rooted a stock gingerbread cappy? How did you do it? So far the factory reset is keeping the tethering manager error away, but if it
comes back I want to be prepared.
