So....I just upgraded to Gingerbread...

I'm getting frequent "Sorry! The application TetheringManager (process com.tecace.tetheringmanager) has stopped unexpectedly.   Please try again."    error messages.

Anyone else having this problem and how to get rid of it?

i am getting this error as well. Updated to the official 2.3 gingerbread from ofiicial 2.2 froyo last night thru Kies mini.

previously i had superuser (root). used SuperOneClick to do that if memory serves me right. lost the root after the update, i do need to root it again.

also previously installed titanium backup and removed some of the ATT bloatware. included this info incase that made any difference. thanks for any advice

Me too.    I was wondering why SuperOneClick no longer worked once I upgraded to Gingerbread.   I also have Titanium Backup.....which no longer works once I upgraded.    After waiting all this time for Gingerbread, what a disappointment.    I don't see anything New or Improved about it.

searching thru the forums a factory reset should eliminate the tethering manager force close, but that's a last resort for me. could there be any other solutions we could try first?

unrooting methods usually get closed by the next release anyway so that was expected. again, searching the forum yields the solution to keep factory gingerbread is to be to flash with a pre-rooted ROM and then reflash with 2.3 but thats a few more steps than i'm ready to do.

ti backup doesn't work w/o root so that isnt gingerbread's fault. there are some minor visual changes and performance improvements as touchwiz seems more responsive.

I'm getting the same error all the time. Tried soft reboot but no joy. Checked with AT&T today, he said "First I've heard of it". I suspect he will hear more soon.

That's what AT&T always says...."first I've heard it".     I've done a factory reset, I'm still having the same problem.

I did a search on Factory Reset and couldn't find instructions and I can't find anything under settings?

Can someone help?  I know its a newbie question but I want to get rid of the Tethering message!

Many thanks

Doing a factory reset won't get rid of the problem, but here's how to do it:
go to menu, settings, privacy, factory data reset

Make sure you back up everything first.

I'm getting the same message, guess I'll call AT&T too, no way to get help from Samsung?  Probably not since AT&T probably modified the update so much.  Updated one of my Captivates in a breeze, the other one is not recognized by Windows.  Researched and trial and error for two day, guess the phone is defective, out of warranty and not eligible for upgrade. Just wanted to subscribe to this thread in case someone comes up with a resolution for the error message.

I messed up! I do NOT know how it happened but the driver somehow failed me and as it was upgrading it stopped and than went to phone recovery and it didn't work and now my phone looks like this;-(

I am so upset please if anyone knows how to get it back to Froyo or if I can get Kies to somehow make phone recognizable to windows again!
I used a different computer than the one I used I upgrade the first time to Froyo:-/
I should've left it alone seriously :-(
I have successfully upgraded phones and everything and now I hit a brick wall! Literally!
Will AT&T have the software if I go there? Can they fix over the phone??
I think it's insured if not I'm so so beat w this phone ;-/

Factory reset did fix my tethering error, and my car docking error (neither of which I've ever used) but PC will no longer recognize the phone, on neither of my captivates and the one out of warranty is locked in Landscape mode. The other Samsung is going to refurbish and send back because it was under warranty, so I'm going to trash the junked one and accept the repaired one.  They should fix them all, since everyone admits that they had a bad batch of these phones. I was never able to upgrade the one under warranty because it was not recognized on a windows PC either.  I can't believe there is no help for this problem from the mfr.... or AT&T who are clueless.

Cool I FOUND THE FIX!!!

Mar 23,2012  Chatted w/Samsung & FACTORY RESET stopped the error. Yeah, I hated it too but this is the only fix he could find.
***BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR FILES FIRST***
Settings> Privacy> Factory Reset.

Then, MY PC DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THE PHONE!  Shocked  He said I needed to download a driver for the phone at this link:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-I897ZKAATT#content3

Mar 27, 2012 Haven't had that error since. It's soooo much nicer. Big Smile

I hope this helps you.
