I didn't mark the pages I looked at, so I can't give you a link, but it should be easy enough to google the differences between froyo and gingerbread.

Frankly, I didn't see many that would be useful to me.  The froyo rom I have now has flash and wireless AP and speed improvements.  Gingerbread has better copy and paste.  I don't think I'll be really excited to see that.  But I use the stuff from the froyo upgrade (over eclair) all the time.

you guys probably saw this already but 2.3.2 for the galaxy s series just leaked from samsung, just a matter of time before designgears or other custom rom makers work their magic and give us a taste of that sweet gingerbread.

CM 7 for Captivate is also nearing completion, give it another month and it'll probably be released to XDA forums.

Note it says Galaxy S, not the Captivate. I think it means that people who have the international Galaxy S phone on AT&T will get the update, not people who have the Captivate. But I would love to be proved wrong.

Where is the person who runs that site getting that release schedule from?  I saw no source links, or anything that backs up what was posted.

If we go on the last update a release now for the main phone would/should equal an update for us around Sept, if Samsung still supports the Cappy.  I say if, cuz based on my own personal web research most manufactures for these Android phones stop OS support by the time the phone has been out for a year.  Sadly tech is still advancing to fast... since SGS2's are in sight.

Man I hate apple, but they do support the iPhone right.  If Samsung, HTC, and other companies were smart, they would release one android flagship a year, and support each model for 2 years.  For instance the Galaxy S... Their shouldn't be a GT-I9000, Captivate, Epic 4G, Fascinate, Vibrant, Galaxy S 4G, Continuum, Infuse 4G, Droid Charge.... their should just be one Galaxy S for the whole freakin world.  It should be supported till 2012, but the Galaxy S 2 should still be released this year.  And samsung's stupid android phones like the Intercept and transform simply shouldn't exist.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, remember when the motorola Razr was the phone to have?  EXACT same phone on every network.  Honestly we would of gotten our froyo update back in November or earlier, and we'd probably already have the gingerbread update had Samsung followed this formula.  Its just stupid IMO to make so many variants and they are all just different enough that for instance the Froyo update wasn't one size fits all.

This would also probably make development easier for bigger companies, and the market wouldn't suck as much either.

Blah! More worthless information. Just a way to get more hits to their sites, blocgs, etc. Even if it did happen we won't see it until the end of the year because of AT&T wanted to repackage everything and block everything.

x2 on this one. I'm hoping it comes sooner, but I'd think this is pretty close. But now that a few of us are nearing the end of a contract with the Cappy, possibly they'll think about that before we migrate to another carrier.
