So after doing some reading, some of my own experiments and testing. I have come to a conclusion that a lot of you have probably have already come to already too. The leaked version of Froyo is a beta version and is not the official release.

So those of you who are thinking about installing the new 2.2 version of Froyo, I would recommend you waiting until the official release by Samsung and ATT. This version of Froyo has a lot of major bugs which include; Hard to unlock swipe screen, lagginess, gps still does not work, ect.

If you really want to still install it for some reason then go right ahead but you have been warned. If you have installed the leaked Froyo 2.2 update and would like to revert back to the stock 2.1 version please click HERE. Just follow the directions because if you managed to install 2.2 you should be able to get back to 2.1 with no problem.

Also would like to note that any future leaks should be examined more carefully before jumping to a conclusion, usually leaks like this are just betas and people are too caught up in the moment (like me) to examine the whole shabang.

Actually, I don't see any of those problems you have mentioned... Infact I upgraded when it came out first, I see that my phone is faster, the GPS lock is awesome (I am even testing Wiki Drive the AR GPS Navigation without issues). There is nothing unusual and I have had no lag issues!

100% of the people who do a thing are reactionary.

And only 10% come back and say they failed.

What I'm saying is if one person says this leaked version is buggy or glitchy then I am satisfied enough to wait.

Besides a bunch of my apps only work for 2.1 as is so why am I in a hurry to F that up ???

reasons to update...

flash 10.1
maybe fix gps (rare)
new color theme
faster (less lag)

reasons not to...

incorrect battery png (fixable)
2.1 apps not updated
fear of the unknown

yes the froyo for our phones IS beta NOT official, but who said it was? it's not gonna hurt your phone to upgrade, nor stay on 2.1. but why condemn it so? seems like preference to me...

Two days... Still no quarks yet.  None of  my movies and ringtones were erased from the internal SD during the process either.  The only minor lag is with the Samsung Buddy widget (barely noticeable when scrolling to it).  I don't use touchwiz anyway.  Reinstalled ADW and Beautiful Widgets and everything is running perfectly smooth.  The Mobile AP is awsome! 54 Mbps when I only have 2 bars signal strength.  Browser with flash works great.  I can go to MTV2.com and watch videos in browser!  All the syncs have worked properly as well (FB and Google all I use).  The stock video player plays more formats.  Now plays movie files it didn't play in 2.1.  Video quality is still better on Rock Player though with movies I've downloaded that are less than 720p.  System seems faster and battery life seems better too.  Task manager is nice addition as well.  I'm cheezin'

No issue with lock screen or mms that I've seen mentioned on here.
My only gripe is there is still no ability to add signature in default messaging software.

I decided to give this a shot rather than rooting for right now. It's not too bad. I did notice a few bugs, which gives me good reason why it is only beta. I haven't fully tested it out yet. No issue with the unlock screen. Many of the features I was waiting for with 2.2 are there and working, like voice dial.  Wink Wink

- turning bluetooth on and off leaves an error message in the status bar.
- custom contact groups don't work, when attempting to open a contact, the wrong one is opened
- still a bit laggy here and there, but it is better.
- some apps are missing on install, like the samsung car home and desk home apps
- some apps are not accessible from the market, like Fandango

I noticed some bluetooth sim mode notice sometimes when deactivated, but other than that,  Flawless.
I've since rooted, added a lag fix and used titanium back up to delete bloat ware.  Now consistanly over 1700 quadrant score.

I may do that soon. I did notice the beta getting laggier and laggier as time went on. So, I decided to load LauncherPro to replace TouchWiz and it helped alot. I do get force closes on things like the new Android Market. We will see.

Since i have put the "beta" version on my phone i have not had any problems. Battery last a whole day gps works great and the tethering function is pretty damn cool lol! I did do a lag fix and rooted my phone also my benchmark score went from 985 to 1988 so the phone is super fast. I was just wondering has anybody else tried it and if so are they having any problems cause i havent.

I decided to go the custom 2.2.1 ROM route and I couldn't be happier. Phoenix 4.5, tried 4.1 first, is very fast and lag free. So far no issues. Got a quadrant score of 1302 just now.

I am running the leaked froyo and it's great, but I want to revert back to the original 2.1 so that I could do the official froyo update. Can anybody show me how this is done? I also hear that there are other updates coming, so I want to be on track witht he official ROMs. Thanks!

Visit http://ninjasmack.in to learn how to flash Cyanogen Mod 7 gingerbread 2.3.4 to your phone. This firmware come pre-rooted and has many more options that you just can't get with the basic android firmware. It doesn't have swype yet but they are actively developing for it and releasing nightly builds every night. If you are like me you will be addicted to flashing nightlies to your phone in no time just to see what features they come out with next! Don't take my word for it, CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF!
