My Captivate will connect to my Netgear WGR614v6 router at home (WPA-PSK) - It gets an IP address, shows excellent signal strength and from the router it can be seen as well. I can't ping it from my PC, but I'm not sure if the phone is set to respond to ICMP anyway. I've enabled MAC filtering on my router, but it's in the list and everything looks OK.
That is, until I try to go somewhere.
It can't actually connect to anything else via the network. I've suspected DNS issues of some kind, but I'm not sure. I always get the standard "Web page not available" page in the browser, even if I use the IP address of the page. Eg., going to 209.191.122.70 (
www.yahoo.com) doesn't connect, but the failure page in the browser does say "The Web page at http://
us.m.yahoo.com...", etc., so something is getting resolved somewhere.
On the router, I've tried setting my ISP's DNS servers manually, reserving a static IP for the phone, turning off MAC filtering, etc., etc., but no success. This same phone works great on the LinkSys routers at work and
everything else I've connected to my Netgear router at home works fine (multiple PCs, laptops, etc.). I'm at the latest available firmware rev on router as well.
On the phone, there's no proxy set, no static IP, no custom port, etc., etc. It's straight vanilla as far as I can tell. This is a refurb from AT&T, but I had the same issue with another one (that I had to replace due to a broken volume rocker). It's a clean non-rooted image as well.
I've seen a couple of references to similar issues between Captivates and Netgear routers on the net, but no resolution.
Has anyone run into this here?
Thanks!
Thanks.
