Hello all, I am new here as I just got a Samsung Captivate 3 days ago. So far I am totally hooked on this phone. Far surpasses any phone I have had in the past. Anyways, one thing I don't get is how/why I have "data usage" when I am on WiFi (at home). I installed "NetCounter" to see wife/data stats and I see data being used even when I am on wifi, what gives?   The only conclusion I could come up with is maybe wifi cuts off when the phone goes to "standby" mode?   Sorry if this is in the wrong spot.  Any information you can give me would be great and much appreciated.  Also is there a way to "disable" data plan usage when on wifi at home?   Thanks in advance!

What's your current WiFi settings.  In particular the "WiFi sleep policy" settings>wireless and network>Wi-Fi settings, press the menu soft-key and go to advanced.

If it is set to sleep at all, then your likely to have some data use.  As for what's using data... well any or every app on the phone depending on its design and function.  Permissions give you an idea of who uses data and who does not.  The typical suggestion is to check your most commonly used apps and turn the sync/update rates down/off.  Also the phone will do sync's with your Google account to keep them up to date with each other, for this in the account settings you have an options for background data and auto sync.

Thanks for the reply..  I JUST found and read the site "capfaq.com" and read the bit about the wifi sleep policy. I thought for sure it was turned to sleep, but I went to open it and it was already on "never".  Hmm..?    But I also just earlier today update my Captivate from android 2.1 -> 2.2   Maybe 2.1 had it set to "sleep" by default?  Anyways, I will wait a couple more days since I just updated and checked that setting to see if it fixes itself.  Happy
