HUH? I am new to the Captivate, and I am having major issuses with the wifi at work. We have 3 smart phones here, and all of them but mine can connect to the Wifi. I have tried everything I have read in these forums, and still it doesnt work. I have WiFi at home, and I can connect just fine to it. But I can not connect while I am at work. And I spend more time at work then I do at home, and it is frustrating. Please help.

yea there are some major issues with the captivate's wi-fi. My phone will only connect to my home wi-fi if I do the following. Make sure wi-fi is turned off. Open the AllShare app. It will ask you if you want to connect to wi-fi..Tap yes...wait a second..If it connects tap the the home key and done. AllShare must use a different process of obtaining IP address I suppose. Good luck.

I am going to ask this question so we can rule it out:  Is your work wifi encrypted and or uses a mac filter?

The wifi is just a normal router. I have the same type at home. I am going to try the all share app, and hope. Thank you

Sorry that didn't help. If the allshare trick stops working for me I guess Ill have to get a new phone. If you mention this to anyone at at&t or samsung they act like your the first person to report it. Oh and they don't have a fix for it. I'm pretty sure a hard reset would fix my home connectivity problem because it has before. I just refuse to do it again. Good luck man.

I am having this exact same issue. My phone has been connecting up to my Linksys WRT54G (no passphrase security - open network with MAC address filtering) for a couple of months and all of a sudden tonight it won't connect. I have not changed anything in the router or phone settings. I went ahead and opened my wireless network completely in the router earlier but it still wouldn't obtain an IP address. I have reset both the phone and the router but it still says "Obtaining IP Address from... " for 10 seconds and then the Wi-Fi says Disconnected and my Wi-Fi Network says Remembered.

I can open ALLShare and press OK when it says connect to Wi-Fi, it opens up the Wi-Fi manager and BAM it connects right up to my router. If I disable and then re-enable the Wi-Fi it can't connect again until I do it through AllShare.

I am going to keep searching and playing around with it and I will post a solution if I find one.

I'm also having the same problem, which began suddenly after months of working fine. Phone connects then instantly disconnects from home network. It is able to connect to other wireless networks however. I fiddled with router settings but no luck. Have same WRT54G router as earlier poster.

I went into Advanced settings and set a static IP address and now I can connect to my router without using AllShare. I was afraid that if I set a static IP address then it wouldn't connect to other networks until I disabled it but it does just fine. I usually have to disable/re-enable my WiFi to get it to connect at home though. Every once in awhile it connects automatically when I get home but I usually have to disable/re-enable. Pretty frustrating but as long as I can still connect then I am happy.

Having the same problem at home, but had no issues at work. Using same Verizon router at both locations.  Last week had to reset router at work and phone stopped connecting.  All I can figure is it has to do with what the router is transmitting.  Re-setting at work is more a hassle than worth.  Thank you for suggesting the Allshare option, just did it at work and it is working.  When I get home I will re-set home router and see if that makes a difference. If re-setting does not, than I will try Allshare at home.  Will let you know the outcome.

Using Allshare works.  Also, re-set router and I now can connect to wifi without using allshare.  Hope this helps.

I was wrong about leaving the wireless configured to use a static IP address. I had configured it with an IP address for home and it has been working great. At work and another person's house it was using the IP address and showing that it was connected to the wireless network but it ended up not working. I now have to go to Advanced settings and disable "Use Static IP" before I get to work or anywhere else where I will be using Wi-Fi.

AT&T finally released the Gingerbread update and my wi-fi works like normal again! Hopefully it stays this way!
